What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been...

In 1981 Lexington Coffee & Tea Company was born in Terri Walker Wood's garage. She ordered the finest coffee she could find and after grinding it and packing it literally by hand, sold it to restaurants, businesses, and supermarkets in and around Lexington.

Gradually the company acquired appreciative customers who had good taste in coffee and realized that there was more to coffee than just a hot drink in the morning. By April of 1983 the company moved into the present site on Regency Road and began roasting their own coffee.

At that time, Lexington Coffee & Tea was the only coffee roasting plant operating in the state of Kentucky. Coffee Times, which is the retail store in front of Lexington Coffee & Tea opened its doors for the first time in July of 1983.

The store was much smaller then, occupying only half the space it does today. Coffee Times sold about 24 types of coffee then, compared to over 95 varietals and flavored coffees now offered. We seated about 15 patrons and closed at 6 pm, whereas now we seat over 75 and remain open on the weekends until eleven pm.

Coffee Times quickly established our individuality by having our roasting operation in public view at the back of the store. Even though Coffee Times is a separate company, it shares the building with the Lexington Coffee & Tea Company and continues to purchase all of its fresh roasted and flavored coffees exclusively from them.

Coffee Times is known as the oldest and best coffee house in Lexington, with an eclectic decor, excellent fresh roasted gourmet coffee, and a distinctly unique and wonderful aroma that fills up our neighboorhood when we are roasting. Please visit us and see for yourself!
